As far as I'm concerned, yes I found it quite accurate, right down to the regions and the percentages (the only surprise, as far as significant percentages are concerned, is Sicily… but then I have quite a few Sicilian matches on 23andme so who knows?). It's the first company which managed to spot my French regions. 23andme can't even tell whether I'm French or German. In short, for now, it's the most accurate and detailed report I've received.

I could have been unlucky, but in my case I consider it a rather inaccurate tool.


I know very well that Romagnols often plot with central Italians, just as they may have smaller Greek, Balkan, Middle Eastern shares, but over 44% of southern Italian (Southern Italy + Sicily) seems to me to be an exaggeration: almost as if one had one of the parents from that area (!)


The same division proposed between the various reference populations is somewhat questionable...

Only the breakdowns of the macro-regional quotas seem realistic to me

There are a few other peculiarities. Who told them the Marche is in Northern Italy? I also think using the Swiss isn't very productive: the Ticino is Italian, Geneva is French, and the rest is German.

Also, the Middle East is apparently Turkey, which is odd.

Anyway, I can't say more without taking the test myself.

Tardis is right about 23andme and the French category. It's terrible they can't delineate between the Germans and the French. I think part of the reason is that they use their own clients as part of the reference pool, and the U.S. is full of southwestern Germans, who might indeed not be all that different from the French students in Lyon, from where that non-French south academic sample comes. I also don't know whether they include any academic samples from southern France. There certainly are very few French samples of any kind in the U.S.

That raises an interesting point about the Germans. Perhaps northern Germans might come out Scandinavian like, eastern ones more Eastern European like, and, as I said, the ones from the southwest are more northeastern, eastern French like?
