Trump has mentioned that he wanted to privatise the US postal service to increase its efficiency. I have read that many Americans believe the US postal service to be grossly inefficient. In reality this is far from being the case. The US postal service is one of the best in the world.

According to a study by Universal Postal Union only five countries have a more efficient postal service than the United States.

You can find the full ranking in the official paper here. The scoring system is based on four factors: reliability, reach, relevance, and resilience.

Interestingly Nordic countries do not perform very well despite the fact that the top three countries worldwide are other Germanic countries. Sweden ranks 26th, Finland 34th, Denmark 45th, Norway 51st while Iceland ranks at a shameful 83rd position, behind Pakistan, Laos, Mongolia, and several African countries.

In Austria the Post (it is on the stock market now, but was the state owned service before) is by far superiour to all other private services. DHL is ok, but DPD is significantly worse in efficiency and reliability.
