I think that with terrorism of the United 93 Airlines and the Terrorist attacks in London were both done by dual nationals of these respective countries, it is important that it should be made law that while putting people into intement camps like North America did to the Japanese should not occur, a renouncing of the citizenship of the country that one goes to war against should be implemented. Britain made it a law to strip dual nationals who comit crime to be stripped of British nationality. If national security is a factor, it is better to make dual nationals choose which side they want to be a citizen in, rather than keeping the public a threat.
Even the United States got paranoid requiring all Canadians to have passports to cross the boarder with stricter security checks. I had to throw away expensive gels, creams etc, to enter the USA because of the 9-11. What should be happening is that Iraqi dual nationals should be choosing a single nationality so that other citizens need not be inconvenienced.
I know making these dual nationals may seem harsh, but it is a 21st century humaine alternative to putting people into interment camps and stuff. So even countries that permit dual nationality should be only on the condition that your second country does not go to war with your first country. This I think is reasonable.
Ask any Japanese, who was living in either Canada or the US during the WWII, that during a war, if it would have been fair, if they were not interned but simply asked to choose which side they are on, sending back only those who said, "I declare myself to be a Japanese national" in a war situation. Then, it would be by nationality, not because of race, that they would be returning. And if they were told that if they renounced their Japanese nationality, that they would be given the exact same rights as any white Canadian if they choose to be "Canadian" or "American" at the time, many would have been much less angry, and very understanding.
So if a American, British, or a Canadian of Iraqi ancestry said, treat me as any other American, because I am no longer an Iraqi national, they should be absolved of divided patriotism.
I do feel that while this is not a perfect solution, it is a solution where people are not going to be discriminated by ancestry, but given security clearances on the basis of holding the nationality of a dountry that is going to war with their second country.
How many of you think this is fair?
