Thomas Gottschalk. He is descended from West Slavic Obotrites:

Recently he tested his DNA and turns out to be 50% Eastern Euro:

Gottschalk is a very old Slavic surname:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gottschalk_(Obotrite_prince)

Saint Gottschalk (or Godescalc) (Latin: Godescalcus) (died 6 June 1066) was a prince of the Obotrite confederacy from 1043 to 1066. He established a Slavic kingdom on the Elbe (in the area of present-day northeastern Germany) in the mid-11th century. His object in life seems to have been to collect the scattered tribes of the Slavs into one kingdom, and to make that kingdom Christian.[1]

"A pious and god-fearing man",[2] Gottschalk effected the Christianisation of the Slavic tribes of the Elbe. He organised missions of German priests and founded monasteries at Oldenburg, Mecklenburg, Ratzeburg, Lübeck, and Lenzen, erecting the first three into dioceses. He himself often accompanied the missionaries on their work and augmented their message with his own explanations and instructions.

In all this, he was supported by the efforts of Adalbert, Archbishop of Hamburg. However, the Obotrite nobility and peasantry largely remained pagan. (...)

his aspect is completely West-European, and very well in its place in Bavaria,
spite its auDNA (but every Northwest Northcentral European has a a bit of East-Euro, me too; but he has a very high level in this analysis - is it scientific?) - his second name doesn't prove he is a descendant of St Gottschalk, at the evidence;
But NO Gottschalk is not a slavic name but a german one; it's curious a Slav would have took this name, but some old personal names travelled across frontiers.
from a site, GENEANET not always reliable, but here it seems reliable:
Gottschalk : Porté en Alsace, c'est un nom de personne d'origine germanique formé sur les racines gott (= dieu) et scalk (= serviteur). On le trouve dans d'autres régions de France sous les formes Godchau, Godchaux, Godchot, Godecaux, Godechot, Godechoul, Godechoux (Lorraine, Nord-Pas-de-Calais). A noter que le nom Gottschalk est souvent porté par des Juifs (= serviteur de Dieu).

and very well in its place in Bavaria

He is not native to Bavaria, or at least not all of his ancestors were from Bavaria.

His father and grandfather were born near Namslau (Polish: Namysłów) in Silesia. I didn't know it when I started this thread, I've just learned about it a moment ago. But his high percent of East European now makes more sense, if he has ancestors from Silesia.

As for Gottschalk - maybe it's ultimately not of Slavic origin, but he may actually be descended from that Slavic family which adopted this name in the 11th century.

He was classified as Noric by one user on another forum.

A common type among West Slavs, but also Austrians.

It would be good to know what is his GEDmatch kit number, LOL.

Honestly? From looks alone has a "mad scientist" vibe that is often found in Greater Poland and sometimes in the East of Poland, but mostly in the Masuria region. Then again, it's just personal feelings lmao.

is it scientific?

Yes, it is MyHeritage.

I score 72.8% East Euro, 3.4% Balkan and 23.8% North-West Euro in this test.

'noric', a term I 'm not sure of its relevance concerning an homogenous type, would have been some kind of blond dinaricized type according to COON; I personally doubt of the reality of this type, even for typology only - but this Gottschalk in the picture has nothing 'noric' in it; rather 'alpin' and 'nordic' + very little other thing but nothing special to the vaguely "exotic" details which distinguishes sometimes SLavs and people of N-E Europe from the Western ones-
concerning Silesia, it' s very possible, and we know a phenotype covers a few genes result compared to complete auDNA, so I don't contest otherwise what you say.
