Even worse, they can kill kids by their own action or let them die putting trust in god and religion. So many cases like this one:

i assume the defect gene is recessive and the symptoms show only if you are homozygous with it? that could be a problem in the future if those people want to have children. either they distribute a defect allele or there needs to be treatment of the germ lines.
