Arbon an Illyrian city............... the nation of Arbonios and Arbonites.

Now:

Arvanites (Greek: Αρβανίτες, Arvanitika: Arbëreshë or Αρbε̰ρεσ̈ε̰) are a population group in Greece who traditionally speak Arvanitika, a dialect of the Albanian language.

........Albanians. They called themselves
arbënesh/arbëresh, the country
Arbëni/Arbëri,
and the language arbëneshe/arbëreshe.

Although I don't consider the myths a reliable historical source, the myth is there claiming Illyrus, Celtus and Gallus as brothers:

Appianus
The Illyrians Wars III.1

In English:
They say that the country received its name from Illyrius, the son of Polyphemus; for the Cyclops Polyphemus and his wife, Galatea, had three sons, Celtus, Illyrius, and Galas, all of whom migrated from Sicily; and the nations called Celts, Illyrians, and Galatians took their origin from them. Among the many myths prevailing among many peoples this seems to me the most plausible. Illyrius had six sons, Encheleus, Autarieus, Dardanus, Mædus, Taulas, and Perrhæbus, also daughters, Partho, Daortho, Dassaro, and others, from whom sprang the Taulantii, the Perrhæbi, the Enchelees, the Autarienses, the Dardani, the Partheni, the Dassaretii, and the Darsii. Autarieus had a son Pannonius, or Pæon, and the latter had sons, Scordiscus and Triballus, from whom nations bearing similar names were derived. But I will leave these matters to the archæologists.

I see you mentioning about the other Myth of Illyrians, The Sicilian origin,
Not about the Pelasgian+Celtic as described by Herodotus,
In that you are quiting the Pelasgian Branch of Illyrians as described by Herodotus.
If it ok the above with you.

Then in that case Illyrian should be clear IE simmilar to Gaulish and Belgae and-or Celt-Iberian or British-Irish, (before Saxons)
do you believe that modern Albanian belongs to the same Linguistic family with Gaulish-Belgae, Celt-Iberian or British-Irish?

What happened? The Balkan history expert doesn't even know that there was an Illyrian tribe with the name Albania in central Albania?

copy the whole link it doesnt work here. Scroll at the bottom of the map.

NO I SHOW THE MAP AND DOES NOT FIT,

All APPIANUS AND HERODOTUS and PLINY and STRABO DID NOT MENTION THAT TRIBE

ONLY PTOLEMY MENTIONS THEM AS ALBANOPOLIS 5-6 CENTURIES AFTER HERODOTUS

SINCE YOU CLAIM WIKI

Albani or Albanoi (Greek: Ἀλβανοί) are assumed to have been an Illyrian tribe whose first historical account appears in a work of Ptolemy,.[5] Ptolemy is the earliest (and only) writer in whose works the name of these ancient Albani (their identification and connection with the modern nation of the Albanians is highly disputed [6]) has been distinctly mentioned, although Ptolemy himself makes no hint of their true ethnic identification, and he does not clarify whether the citizens of Albanopolis were Illyrians, Macedonians or Roman colonists from Italian Alba, outside Rome, all of which are distinct possibilities. He mentions (3.13.23) the name ALBANI (Ἀλβανοί) and a town ALBANOPOLIS (Ἀλβανόπολις), in the region lying to the E. of the Ionian sea; and from the names of places with which Albanopolis is connected, it appears clearly to have been in the S. part of the Illyrian territory, and in modern Albania. If we were to speculate that they are related to the modern Albanians, which is not at all certain [6] then there is no means of forming a conjecture on how the name of this obscure tribe came to be extended to so considerable a nation.</ref> places them in modern north-central Albania), in 150 AD in ancient Roman Macedon specifically in Epirus Nova. This places them almost 300 years after the Roman conquest of the region, in the Roman province of Macedon. Albanopolis of the Albani is a place located on the map of Ptolemy and also named on an ancient family epitaph of Romanized Thracians[7] at Scupi (near modern Skopje). While it been identified with the Zgardhesh hill-fort near Kruja in northern Albania, the archaeological finds make such identification improbable, since the Zgardhesh hill-fort ruins belong to a settlement that was abandoned fully 350 years before the mention of Albanopolis by Ptolemy. The much later mentioned Arbanon is likely to be the name of a district – the plain of the Mat has been suggested – rather than a particular place. An indication of movement from higher altitudes in a much earlier period has been detected in the distribution of place names ending in -esh, that appears to derive from the Latin -ensis (Vulgar Latin -ēsis), between the Shkumbin and the Mat rivers, with a concentration between Elbasan and Kruja. It is not certain if the ancient city of Albanopolis corresponds with the Arbanon of the 11th cAD, mentioned ny the Byzantines nine centuries later.[8]

but we know that

Albocense (Albocensii) was a Dacian tribe[1] that inhabited the area of Banat (Serbia, Romania) with the towns of Kovin (Contra Margum), Trans Tierna, Ad Medias II, Kladovo (Ad Pontes), Apu, Arcidava, Centum Putea, Ram (Lederata) and Praetorium I. They lived between the Timiş River (Tibiscus) and north of the Saldenses, south of the Biephi.[2] It is believed that the tribe migrated to Spain in Roman times.

Maximus of Moesia, the governor of Moesia under Emperor Valens, approached the lands of the Albocense prior to the Gothic Wars

which fits with Romanised Thracians
and also fits with that

Thermidava was an ancient Dacian[1] town in Illyria mentioned by Ptolemy[2] (90-168, C.E.) as an inland town of Dalmatia. It could be located near modern Scodra[3]

Roman Emperor Trajan marched with his troops for Naissus and crossed Thermidava prior to the Roman-Dacian Wars. In the town he was greeted by Dacians.[1] The next town he passed was Ulpiana.

ILLYRIA WAS COLONISED BY DACIAN (Thracian) ALBOCENSII TRIBE,
IN THEIR PRIMARY LAND EXISTS MANY ALBAS AS ALBA LULLIA etc

and That is why Herodotus and Appianus STRABO PLINY NEVER mention them
PTOLEMY IS AFTER ALL OF THEM, MEANING THAT THE ONES YOU CALL AS ILLYRIAN TRIBE MAY SETTLE THERE AFTER PLINY STRABO HERODOTOS AND APPIANOS.
Romaanized Thracians and Not Celto-Illyrians

THAT IS WHY ALBANIAN LANGUAGE SEEMS TO BE MORE NORTH AND EAST (Germanic Slavic Baltic branch) THAN SOUTH WEST EUROPEAN (Latino-Celtic)

from the liitle we know about Dacian-Thracian language, it was more Satem than Centum. something that also fits with modern Albanian, instead of ancient Illyrian language

What happens the master of Linguistic methods does not understand the differences among Celtic Thracian and Albanian, or all the above where also Church languages?

AHAHAHAHA

I WONDER IF ILLYRIAN WAS SPOKEN AT THAT TIME.

BOTH ARE AFTER ROMAN OCCUPATION OF ILLYRIA AND MUCH AFTER THE COLONISATION BY DACIANS

YOU ARE CREATING AN IMAGINARY TRIBE FROM 250AD reports after Romanization of Balkans, that existed 8 CENTURIES BEFORE,
EVEN THERMIDAVA DID NOT EXIST THE TIMES THAT ILLYRIANS EXISTED AND RULE THAT LAND.

Besides it is not the only case that Illyrians allie with Getae,
It is also mentioned that Visii moved to Kossyfopedion when were at war with Greeks.

I see you mentioning about the other Myth of Illyrians, The Sicilian origin,
Not about the Pelasgian+Celtic as described by Herodotus,

Am I reading this right...!! did you just give credible sources that Illyrians came from Pelasgians, hence their ancestors were in Greece before the Greek language got there. Even I haven't gone that far with my claims...
Anyway dude, you can believe whatever fabrication you want, hopefully one day you'll heal from your albanophobia.

Highly disputed by Bulgarian nationalist Georgiev who came up with the maritime vocabulary bullcrap? Yes, Romans dominated along the coast, and therefore Latin vocabulary replaced the southern Illyrian one, while the people who lived and hid away in the mountains away from the coast kept mountaneous lexicon.
Illyrian was last mentioned to have been spoken around 6-700 AD. It is even mentioned as a language in testimonies of St. Jerome.

Do you realize that there is 0 records, I mean literally 0 records, of any other Proto-Albanian record in the Balkans?

Why is it so hard for you to accept that Arbeni came from the Albanoi/Arbanon in central Albania?

And banon/banoi also means "to live in/to inhabit" in Albanian, thats something a little extra for you ;)

Albanians come from the Illyrian tribe of Albanoi in Central Albania end of story.

Albanian is the only language where you can explain Illyrian toponyms, i.e. Dalmatia, Ulqinj, Dardania, etc.... as well.

I dont understand what's so controversial about Albanians descending from an Illyrian tribe called Albanoi living in central Albania. How is this controversial? What because some other nationalist found one Bulgarian nationalist source that disagrees with it, and somehow its suddenly controversial.

that is not proof, that's called SLANDER. You should be banned for malicious and discriminatory comments towards another country.

Dude dont tell me about my own language, ok? It is a fact that Illyrian and Albanian were spoken in the same place at the same time.

The Illyrian languages were likely extinct between the 2nd and 6th centuries AD.[75][76] However, it is also possible that Illyrian was preserved and spoken in the countryside as attested in the 4th-5th century testimonies of St. Jerome.[77][78]

That's my argument about the maritime vocab b.s. That the Romans mainly dominated the coastline. In the testimonies of St.Jerome Illyrian is still mentioned as a language in the country side. There's sources that refer to an Illyrian language up to 6-700 A.D.

And the 2 Albanian dialects Gheg/Tosk, preceded the Slavic migrations in the 4th-5th century, because they treat loanwoards differently. But the real split probably happened centuries before. It could have even happened before 0 A.D. And it a geographical split centered around Shkumbin river.

And Illyrian was spoken as south as Apollonia in Southern Albania, which was Illyrian land colonised by Greeks/Epirotes. Look it up. The Illyrian tribe of Albanoi was located below Drin as well.

I honestly don't get where you people get these "facts" from. Pulling them out your asses maybe.

And please enough of the haplogroup bullshit. Stick to linguistics. We don't even have a single account of Illyrian primary source words, and you're talking about their haplogroups. What an idiot.

If the illyrians languages where still around when you said, why was none recorded by the roman historians, they recorded many other languages?
- why was it that since many roman emperors in the AD period where illyrian, they did not record anything in Illyrian?

why was the term Albanoi only appear once and for the first time in 150AD ?

Illyrian tribe only held less that 10% of modern albania, the rest was macedonian lands after the macedonians defeated the illyrians in the time of Philip II and alexander the great. The illyrian border was the Drin river. without this win over the illyrians , the macedonians could not invade Persia

get of you nationalistic bandwagon and read some real history.

Look what Maciamo has created. A series of stupid idiots, who take haplogroups as some sort of replacement for genetic studies.

I hate to break this to you, but all haplogroups are from African soil. Albanians are almost no different from their neighbours in autosomal DNA, which is the only thing that is even close to a genetical argument.

Haplogroups mean shit, and always will. They're only there for idiots like you to make you feel like you know something, when you actually dont shit.

And yes Cameroon is almost 90% R1b, look it up. So I guess they're 90% Celtic as well. Then Maciamo will come and say oh no but theyre a different branch of R1b. But its funny cause he groups them altogether anyhow and makes maps of them, even though theyre "different branches".

Only 1 haplogroup was created in Africa , that is E , others are middle east, west-asia, caucasus etc
for MtDNA it is L

Especially at land of Geg including Kossovo if remeber corretct at least 7,

Because the "nations" in the past were far more different from the modern ones. The equation: 'one nation one language' is valid only when applied to the modern nations. It's very hard to say, what an ancient author meant by using the word nation, or the equivalent to it. I look at the nations in thepast not as an ethnic group, but rather as religious groups, and that in thecase of the Hellenes was very evident. This might have been the case of the Illyrians too and that's the reason they both disappeared from the history. But in that region was a very ancient nation called EPIROTES, that according toStrabo and MANY others were part of the mythical Pelasgians:

Strabo 5.2.4
πολλο
δ κα τπειρωτικθνη Πελασγικ ερήκασιν,

and their names survived during the Medieval times as Albanians

51ap9v.jpg

and their land(Epirus) which according the same sources was in the limits ofthe Ancient Greece was the synonym to Albania:

azib6s.jpg

These were the people where Albanians come from:

2rem7iv.gif

The ethnic connection to the ancient Illyrians whose their original homelandwas Liburnia(up north Balkans) is somehow unclear, but by taking in consideration that nothing but Albanians appear to have lived in the mostremote and unreachable areas of that region apparently repelled there from different invaders, makes them the sole survivors of the Epirotes and Illyrians and Macedonians.

You would like that? That Hellenes disapear.
I wonder where you get such ideas.

Sory Hellenes and Hellenised neighbors from Balkans are still here, to show you that your theories have nothing to do with reality.
the one who disapear are only the Thracian and Illyrian language.

I wonder what else you think,

now you are claiming Epirotes as Pelasgians.
YOU Means Greeks?
Since you deny the Pelasgian branch and you followed the Sicilian road,
Means Illyrian have nothing to do with Pelasgian road, but clearly Celtic,
yesterday you said that Illyros brother of Gallus brother of Keltos.
clear Celtic,
why you claim Pelasgians today? you deny them yesterday?

I wonder where Strabo mention about Epirotes as Pelasgians,

Thank you, your map show the alliance of Hellenic city-states, and since Epirotes did not participate in Persian war it is obvious that should have another color.
besides notice that Crete has also same color with Epiros,
MEANS THAT BOTH EPIROTANS AND CRETANS DID NOT PARTICIPATE IN PERSIAN WAR.
MAYBE FROM MAP YOU WILL CLAIM THAT CRETE WAS ALBANIAN ALSO?

in fact Epirotes is synonym with word Greek Γραιοι and later Aeolians and upper Makedonians and not with word Myceneans.

2rem7iv.gif

IN YOUR MAP ILLYRIA IS ABOVE LISSOS, MEANING FROM MONTE NEGRO AND UP MORE to Dalmatia.
so if Albanian = Illyrian means that Until Lissos was Pelasgian nation who got Hellenized as Iones Aeolees etc

PS
Thank you you make my day again

PS 2
As I said the main enemy of Albania is you 2 guys,
Just look what you post and claim as evidence
you post a map where Illyrians are in Dalmatia and Albania is Hellenic,
thank you Zeus10 you just make gift your country
AS I SAID YOUR ONLY ENEMY IS YOU AND YOUR SHELF.
you think you are so clever that you just admit the oposite that you write and gave away your country to the Hypothetical enemy.
who is your enemy now? me or you?

Lets first state a fact widely accepted: Pelazgians are the people that inhabited most of the southern balkans, before the greek language (and hellens) got there.

The replacing of the titans (old gods) with the olympian gods has been interpreted as the conquest of the IE people over the pelazgians.
So the myth is still consistent, Illyrian is IE from Poseidon (grandfather), and pelazgian from Thoosa (paternal grandmother) and Galatea (mother) (daugter of titan Nereus and oceanid Doris). The fact that pelazgians are on the mother's side of illyrians, is consistent with the fact that
mtdna in europe is mostly paleolithic and neolithic. It is also consistent with the IE people being mostly male conquerors,
as supported by the current y-dna distributions in europe. Current dna of albanians is surprisingly consistent with this myth, being
the right mix of neolithic, paleolithic, and bronze age conquerors.

No Yetos. Whoever decided to call the actual Greeks as Hellenes, simply hijacked a mythical identity of a doubtful remote past. The Modern Greeks notonly do not represent ethnically and historically the idealized Ancient Hellenes but they dishonor their name and fame morally.
In regards to the Epirotes, there is not a single instance in history, their name to be associated to the Greeks, but there are numerous examples that theirname simply means Albanians and they are nothing but Albanians, here it is one of them:

262uwc3.png

30ab1i1.png

As for the Greeks, they should start understanding that the intolerance against their neighbors won't promote any longer a special historical position for them, which will benefit them politically and economically. It will otherwise trigger their reaction, which in the best case will expose the falsity of the Greek history.

@ kamani
if I bring linguistic similarities of Albanian with Berber will you say that Berber Basquez Etruscan came from Albania or pass from Albania?

if you want to know who Pelasgians were read the thread about them,
the fog you want to drop has nothing to do,
if you claim Appianus you can not combine herodotus and Titanomachia,
the one say about Kadmus the other about Polyfemos,
the one say brother of Phoenix and Egypt and the other about Gallos and Keltos,
Gallos and Keltos are not Pelasgian,

was answering the question: Which part of the World is called Albania?

His answer was:

2laq3ix.png

A large part of (Ancient) Macedonia and totally (ancient) Epirus.

Gallos and Keltos are not Pelasgian,
They did not inhabit the balkans, but their pre-IE ancestors possibly shared with the pelazgians cultural and linguistic ties. We tie back to the theory: a lot of western R1b was initially non-IE in europe. Hence you find strange common words in Basque and Albanian.
